भारत के कुछ शीर्ष पहलवानों के यौन उत्पीड़न के आरोपों का सामना कर रहे डब्ल्यूएफआई प्रमुख बृजभूषण शरण सिंह ने कथित तौर पर कहा कि अगर कोई शीर्ष नेता उनसे पद छोड़ने के लिए कहेगा तो वह पद छोड़ देंगे।

“अगर पीएम कहेंगे, तो मैं तुरंत इस्तीफा दे दूंगा। भले ही (केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री) अमित शाह और (भाजपा अध्यक्ष) जेपी नड्डा पूछें, मैं ऐसा करूंगा, ”सिंह को न्यूज 24 ने कहा था।

उनके बयान पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए दिल्ली के जंतर-मंतर पर प्रदर्शनकारी पहलवानों से मिलने और उन्हें अपना समर्थन देने वाली प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा ने एक ट्वीट में कहा, “@narendramodi जी कह दीजिए। न्याय को आपकी 'हां' का इंतजार है (@narendramodi जी उनसे पूछिए। न्याय आपकी 'हां' का इंतजार कर रहा है)।

सुप्रीम कोर्ट के हस्तक्षेप के बाद भाजपा सांसद के खिलाफ दो प्राथमिकी दर्ज की गई हैं, पहली एक नाबालिग द्वारा लगाए गए आरोपों से संबंधित है, 

जिसे भारतीय दंड संहिता की प्रासंगिक धाराओं के साथ यौन अपराधों से बच्चों के संरक्षण (पॉक्सो) अधिनियम के तहत दर्ज किया गया है। (आईपीसी) अपमानजनक विनय के संबंध में।

WFI प्रमुख के खिलाफ विरोध पहली बार जनवरी में शुरू हुआ, लेकिन भारतीय ओलंपिक संघ (IOA) और सरकार ने एक जांच पैनल बनाकर स्थिति को शांत करने में कामयाबी हासिल की।

सिंह ने सोमवार को कहा कि देश के शीर्ष पहलवानों के विरोध के कारण पिछले चार महीनों में खेल की सभी गतिविधियां ठप पड़ी हैं। 

डब्ल्यूएफआई प्रमुख ने कहा कि वह "फांसी" के लिए तैयार हैं, लेकिन राष्ट्रीय चैंपियनशिप और शिविरों सहित कुश्ती गतिविधि बंद नहीं होनी चाहिए क्योंकि यह कैडेट और जूनियर पहलवानों के लिए हानिकारक होगा।

"पिछले चार महीनों में कुश्ती की सभी गतिविधियाँ ठप पड़ी हैं। मैं कहता हूँ मुझे फांसी दो, लेकिन कुश्ती गतिविधि बंद मत करो। बच्चों के भविष्य के साथ खिलवाड़ मत करो।
